Here in this article you will find the best hair growth products. While there is no “cure” for hair loss, however, there are a variety of treatments for hair loss that consist of shampoos, drugs or capillary topical. The effectiveness of most of these treatments against hair loss has not been scientifically proven. The FDA has approved only two prescription drugs for the treatment of hair loss: minoxidil (Rogaine®) and finasteride (Propecia®). Both treatments for hair loss are effective because they decrease hair loss and even in some cases stimulate the growth of new hair. Unfortunately, the results are limited and only last as long as the person continues to take the drug.
Drugs and Shampoos for Hair-loss
Below you will find a list of numerous products for the prevention of hair loss and hair thinning, such as topical solutions and shampoos. Before using any of the products for the treatment of hair loss that are detailed below, consult your doctor.
Minoxidil is one of the two prescription hair loss medications approved by the FDA. Here are some products that contain minoxidil:
Rogaine® is the trademark of minoxidil, which is a vasodilator. Rogaine® is approved by the FDA as it allows the reduction of the rate of hair loss. Minoxidil is available as an over-the-counter or prescription product, depending on the strength of the solution containing the drug. Rogaine® is a topical ointment that is applied to the scalp twice a day. Research shows that minoxidil reduces or stops hair loss, especially in the area of the crown of the head. However, it is not an effective treatment for the hairline.
Rogaine® helps stimulate hair growth in some people; however, the hair will fall off again if the use of minoxidil is discontinued. Any shampoo for hair loss that contains minoxidil can prevent further hair loss and even allow the growth of new hair. Hair loss products with high concentration of minoxidil have been found to be more effective than other products containing a lower dosage.
Loniten® is a prescription tablet containing minoxidil. This medicine was originally used to treat high blood pressure. It was discovered that one of the side effects of the drug was hair growth. According to the manufacturer’s claims, approximately eight out of ten people taking a regular dose of Loniten® experience remarkable hair growth. This has made Loniten® an effective drug for the treatment of hair loss.
In addition to stimulating hair growth, Loniten® has some unwanted side effects, such as salt and fluid retention, increased heart rate, pharmacological interaction, and shortness of breath. Topical products containing minoxidil (eg, Rogaine®) do not have the same side effects as Loniten® and hair loss specialists prescribe more frequently.
EXT® Extreme Hair Therapy is a treatment program that offers Hair Club® for Men and Women exclusively. This program combines a variety of hair and scalp treatments, including products containing minoxidil, hair softeners and shampoos to prevent hair loss, hair strengthening treatments, and others. While hair loss products containing minoxidil reduce hair thinning and stimulate new hair growth, the effectiveness of products that are part of the EXT® Extreme Hair Therapy system has not been clinically proven. The EXT® Extreme Hair Therapy program provides its purchasers with all the necessary treatment products for a year at a high price.
Finasteride is another prescription drug for the treatment of hair thinning and hair loss that is approved by the FDA. Here are some products that contain finasteride:
Propecia is the brand name of finasteride, an oral drug for treating hair loss. It was originally marketed under the trade name Proscar®. Finasteride was developed for the treatment of enlarged prostate. Over time, large numbers of users of this medication and their doctors noticed new hair growth and a decrease in hair thinning. This led to the development of Propecia (a tablet with a lower dose of finasteride), which is prescribed exclusively for the treatment of hair loss.
Propecia® has been approved by the FDA, as it allows reducing the rate of hair loss and the appearance of baldness. This drug also demonstrated its effectiveness for the treatment of hair loss and baldness in women. Propecia® is only available on prescription. Some precautions should be taken with regard to its administration, especially to pregnant women. Propecia is not recommended for the treatment of hair loss in premenopausal women as well as in pregnant women, as simple contact with the drug can lead to serious birth defects.
Reliable clinical studies demonstrate that Propecia® allows the reduction of hair loss and stimulates the growth of new hair. However, as with minoxidil, the use of finasteride should continue indefinitely, otherwise the new hair will fall out. Propecia® has been shown to prevent hair loss or stimulate new hair growth in nine of ten men and postmenopausal women. If Propecia® is combined with minoxidil, with hair loss treatment products such as shampoo treatments, and topical solutions from Rogaine®, better results are achieved.
Proscar® is the brand name of the finasteride solution that is prescribed for the treatment of enlarged prostate. Patients who underwent treatment with Proscar® began to notice new hair growth. After further FDA assessments, finasteride was approved for the treatment of hair loss under the name Propecia®.
Because most health insurance companies consider Propecia® to be an aesthetic treatment and therefore do not cover their cost, some patients with hair loss request that they be prescribed Proscar® and break the tablets in the appropriate doses for The “aesthetic” treatment. This use of Proscar® without proper therapeutic indication is not advisable.
Similar to finasteride, dutasteride was also developed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, but with the use it was found to stimulate hair growth. Avodart® is the trade name for dutasteride.
Avodart®, like Proscar®, is a tablet that is prescribed for the treatment of enlarged prostate. In addition to treating this condition, the active drug Avodart, i.e. dutasteride, has been associated with decreased hair thinning and new hair growth in large numbers of men. Initial clinical studies indicate that dutasteride may be more effective than finasteride, since it blocks the production of approximately 70% of DTH (the hormone that would cause hair loss), compared to the 95% blockade % Corresponding to dutasteride. The FDA investigates the use of dutasteride as a drug for the treatment of hair loss.
In addition to Rogaine®, Propecia® and Avodart®, other products for the treatment of hair loss are commercialized. The following products are just some of the ones available in the market and that allow improving the appearance of the weakening of the hair.
Retin-A is a prescribed topical drug for variety of skin conditions and is recommended for the treatment of hair loss. In combination with hair loss products containing minoxidil, such as shampoos and Rogaine®, Retin-A® improves the absorption of minoxidil in hair follicles, which improves the results in certain patients. Retin-A® also helps to control sebaceous obstruction, which plays a key role in hair loss. Sebum, the oily, waxy substance that helps retain moisture in the skin, is believed to contain DTH (the hormone that causes hair loss). When the sebum gets trapped in the pores, the skin reabsorbs the DTH and, therefore, affects the growth of the hair.
The Graftcyte® family of products is used after hair transplant surgery as it is one of the best treatments for weakened hair and hair loss. Graftcyte® products include shampoos, hair softeners, dressings, sprays and moisturizing gels, designed to stimulate healing and control of scab formation. Shampoo and other Graftcyte® products do not diminish hair thinning or stimulate new hair growth, unlike Rogaine® and Propecia®. The Graftcyte® system aims to stimulate healing and promote the success of grafting procedures, i.e. it is not marketed as a method for the treatment of hair loss.
